Orissa finish 3rd in East Zone Vijay Hazare Trophy

Defending champions finished third in the East Zone Vijay Hazare Trophy Cricket Tournament, which concluded at Agartala, Tripura today. Jharkhand emerged champions when they defeated Orissa by seven wickets in the last league match at Polytechnic Institute ground in Agartala.
Jharkhand topped the five-team league table with 18 points from four successive wins, while Bengal won three and lost one to finish runners-up with 14 points. Orissa secured 10 points, winning two matches and losing the other two. Assam and Tripura finished fourth and last with one and minus three points respectively.
Put into bat by Jharkhand skipper Sourav Tiwary, Orissa were dismissed for 176 in 45 overs. They failed to recover from a top-order collapse, which saw them losing five wickets for 52 runs. All-rounder Paresh Patel waged a lone battle, making 79 (118 balls, 8x4, 1x6). In reply, Jharkhand rode on 40 plus knocks by opener Akash Verma, Ishank Jaggi and Sourav Tiwary to overhaul the target quite comfortably.
